Harvard-Epworth joins with other churches in the Harvard Square area to provide a weekly hot meal for over 110 needy people on Thursdays at Christ Church, Zero Garden St. The original cafeteria-style meal was changed after a few years to family-style service at the tables, with volunteers sitting and eating with the attendees to provide a more welcoming atmosphere. The churches provide annual funds for the food, and volunteers who prepare and serve the food, eat and visit with the guests, and clean up.
The Harvard Square Meals program began in 1982 as an ecumenical ministry of ten churches in Harvard Square. It contin aues to serve a nutritious, sit-down dinner every Thursday at Christ Church, Zero Garden Street to over 120 needy people – more than ever before. We invite you to volunteer with us on a Thursday: food preparation starts at 3:00 p.m. and dinner is served at 6:00 p.m. Enjoy the community spirit and a good meal. For more information, call Laurie at (508) 653-7767 or Lieby at (617) 797-4444. Or, just come by on a Thursday!
